Cranes are called "Agoorim" in Hebrew and "Grus" in Latin. Their body Length is 120-140 cm, Wingspan: 220-245 cm and Weight: 5.5 kg. The Cranes are mostly vegetarian, eating peanut and cotton stubble, budding shoots, chickpeas, leaves, and roots. When the opportunity arises, cranes are also carnivorous, feeding on insects, worms, snails, and sometimes small vertebrates. The Hula-Valley in Northern Israel is probably one of the best places in the world to get very close views on Cranes. Several tens of thousands birds from Eastern Europe and Russia winter in the region and gather every evening to sleep in the shallow Lake Hula. Duration of incubation is about a month. Both parents care for the nestlings. Family ties are maintained in winter quarters. Flocks made up of groups of 3-4 individuals, an adult pair and one or two young, can be seen in Israel in winter
